The basics
- Displays: 7.6" inner display, 5.4" outer display.
- Chip: A20 Pro.
- Cameras: 48MP dual cameras — main and ultra-wide. The 2x zoom is a sensor crop, so there is no dedicated telephoto camera.
- Unlock: Touch ID in the side button. There is no Face ID.
- Build: Grade 5 titanium; 5.2mm thin when open, 11.3mm when closed; 254g. The thinnest iPhone when open.
- Colours: Star White and Night Sky.
- Price: from $1,999 (256GB).
- Dates: pre-orders opened October 16, 2026; launch day was October 23, 2026.
The demand story
Delivery estimates slipped into January within about 30 minutes of pre-orders opening, and walk-in stock at launch was limited. Reviewers have praised the matte inner display and how well the crease is handled — and criticised how many apps still aren't optimised for the foldable shape.
The catch
Two things to weigh before buying a first-generation foldable: no Face ID, and no dedicated telephoto lens. Both are the kind of omission a second generation exists to fix.
Inside track
Reports say a Duo 2 is already in the works, headlined by under-display Face ID. That's a report, not an announcement — but it's the single biggest reason to wait if you're not in a hurry.
Our verdict
Want the future first? Buy the Duo. Want the finished version? Wait for Duo 2.
